Small Pole Barn
Pole barns are outbuildings or sheds, which are developed in many rural and industrial areas to provide extra space other than ordinary commercial buildings or farmhouses. The word ‘pole’ indicates the type of foundation that is used in building pole barns. Wooden frames are used in a pole barn to provide support. Normal buildings and houses use metal pillars that are rooted deep in the ground. However, pole barns use wooden masts to provide a foundation. The structural frames are the most important part in the construction of a building and in making of pole barns. These are the trickier stages.
Pole buildings started trending in the early 1900s when the industrial revolution induced great demand for agricultural products. Harvesting and storage became a serious necessity of subsistence, and commercial farmers started creating sheds to store crops. Gradually, these sheds transformed into pole barns, and many of them are still present in many countries throughout the world.
Pole barns are short tall buildings and do not require deep setting in the ground and attaching. The poles are inserted few feet into the ground and are filled with concrete, or stones, to ensure a firm grip. The poles are joined laterally by girders, which are made up of thicker and even stronger timber. They bind the poles together and provide horizontal support. The top of the barn is usually a trussed roof, with varying roof pitch, set according to the wishes of the owner. After the structure is made, the whole barn is covered using either plywood or wood veneer. The walls are sometimes made with bricks and often with rolled ribbing of various materials. The sidings are covered with weather protection paints to enable immunity from outside temperatures, rain, and humidity. Also, the wood structure will remain safe and last long if it is covered or painted.
Many pole barn construction companies offer free quotations for their service if you provide them with the details of your house. You should tell them about the weather of the area that you live in and the measurements of the barn you want. Furthermore, you should specifically state the purpose of the building. It can be for both personal and commercial use. Many companies will offer guidance and help online. The websites help select the material and pick out the designs. They will also estimate the cost for you. However, some people prefer doing it themselves. The DIY pole barns are much affordable as there is no cost for labor. It is estimated that if a person decides to build his or her pole barn alone, he/she can complete it in one week of time if priorities are set towards building it.
The main things that affect the cost of a pole barn, whether you build it yourself or hire a construction company to do it, are the size, the quantity and the quality of the material used and the money spent on designing. A small and simple pole barn will have a very low cost, whereas, a small but fancy pole barn will cost much more.
